- Does cleaning by means of photocatalysis require direct solar light?
No, the self-cleaning effect takes place in the presence of reflected diffused light, both solar and artificial. Obviously, solar lighting is the most effective one and does not cost anything. Windowpanes absorb the majority of ultraviolet radiation but some part of it filters into the flat and is used in the process of photocatalysis. As for some special applications, it is possible to use special bulbs offered by EcoFair.
- As for northern walls of buildings, does the self-cleaning process works by cloudy weather?
Even a small dose of ultraviolet radiation is enough for the photocatalytic process to take place. It disperses in clouds, weakens but despite everything it is still working. It is the same as with sunbathing. Skin also turns brown when we are in the open space, by cloudy days, but it happens slower. Northern walls are under the influence of reflected and diffused light, just like walls covered with trees and other buildings.
- Will there be any damp patches on the plaster elevation of a building?
No, self-cleaning layers offered by EcoFair effectively eliminate damp patches. The majority of damp patches comes into being as a result of rain, which washes off gathered dirt. Flowing dirt settles on its way making a contrast with clean surroundings.
On the surfaces covered with photocatalytic building materials such process does not take place. When the surfaces are lit, they are characterized by superhydrophilism, i.e. an angle of junction between a drop of rain and a photocatalytic layer is zero. Single drops of rain create then a very thin water film on the wall, which washes off all the dirt and does not leave any damp patches.
- How about surfaces sheltered from rain?
Atmospheric precipitation is not the only factor that has an impact on the effevtiveness of the self-cleaning process. To achieve this effect humidity contained in the air is a sufficient condition, e.g. in closed spaces. However, there are places, where concentration of contaminations is so high that humidity is not enough, e.g. tunnels. In such cases, it is essential to spray surfaces with water from time to time in order to wash off the gathered dirt.
- You are talking about the self-cleaning and antibacterial effects, do they occur indoors?
Yes, materials offered by EcoFair work even if a minimal dose of ultraviolet rays hits them. Even a normal fluorescent lamp emits a small amount of ultraviolet rays. Windowpanes also let in certain part of ultraviolet. This amount is enough for housing or other living needs.
The application of additional artificial light (our company offers reliable ultraviolet sources that are harmless for people,) is usually needed in industrial spaces, where concentration of contaminations is very high. The same applies to places like clinics or hospitals, where the ultraviolet radiation has already been used for antibacterial protection, when we want to strengthen the antibacterial properties of our products. In such places combination of materials offered by EcoFair with additional ultraviolet lighting will result in a very high effectiveness.
- Mould appeared on one of the walls of my house. What do I have to do, to rid the walls of it? Does the self-cleaning effect applies also to the undesirable grey coatings that form as a result of humidity?
In the case when fungus or humidity appears, it is necessary to scrape or huck the “sick” tissue off the wall, before the application of photocatalytic products. When the wall is clean, it should be spreaded or sprayed with fungicides. Surface prepared in such a way is ready to be covered with the self-cleaning layer.
Photocatalytic building materials do not eliminate the already existing sources of contamination. However, they prevent the next appearance of fungus on the wall. Moreover, they are an excellent supplement to the already used products, which protects the wall for a long period of time.
- Does staying in "sterile" places can have a harmful effect on our health?
No. We spent the majority of our time in places filled with dust, saprophytes, fungi, moulds and other bacteria. They infest in walls and furnishings, preying on the layer of dirt, which covers the walls. This is the source of asthma, a wide range of allergies, problems with wounds`
healing. It is also the reason why fruits become covered with mould. EcoFair Company offers materials that both ensure cleanness and sterility and will eliminate a lot of these arduousnesses. The product itself is also harmless. One of the basic ingredients of our paints and plasters – titanium dioxide – is added to medicines, chewing gum and toothpastes.
- Are the process of photocatalysis and the lotus effect one and the same thing?
No, these two processes differ diametrically. The lotus effect comes into being on the surfaces with hydrophobic properties. Surfaces covered with photocatalytic materials have hydrophilic properties.
- Does the surface, which will be covered with your materials require some special preparation?
No. It is enough if the surface destined for painting is clean and durable (without scratches and cracks), deprived of fats and contaminating materials. As for the smooth surfaces, it is recommended to use fixing materials (e.g. ground beam).
- What does it mean that paints are available in a wide range of colours?
It means that we have the possibility to colour our paints according to a few pallets of colours, such as: RAL, NCS, Pantone. We can also prepare a paint according to the delivered pattern at the client`s request. In colouring photocatalytic paints the mineral pigments are used. However, it should be stressed that if the amount of the added pigment is too big, the proportion of paint`s ingredients can have the influence on te product`s properties. That is why, we suggest to colour the paints pastel.
Organic dyes are not suitable because they will be be decomposed just like other organic substances.
- Do self-cleaning materials eliminate problems connected with smoke from cigarettes?
In places painted with photocatalytic products offered by Ecofair, cigarette smoke (like other odours and gases) is eliminated systematically. Photocatalytic surfaces get rid of the smoke from cigarettes and prevent the appearance of yellowish discolourations on walls.
- Will the wall painted with self-cleaning product be able to eliminate all the dirt, e.g. bird droppings, and scratches
Everything depends on the kind of contamination and its surface. Bird droppings will be quickly removed. Rainfalls are very helpfull in the cleaning process. Scratches destroy mechanical surfaces and as a result photocatalytic materials (paints, plasters) disappear and stop working.
- Is it possible to thin your paints in order to cover bigger surface?
One should not do this. Materials offered by EcoFair are thoroughly examined and prepared. They make use of advanced technologies. These products contain viscous elements and fillers. Both time of setting and their behaviour in a wide range of temperatures were checked. Their density is appropriate to covering with standard painting tools. Therefore our products are delivered in the form that is ready to be used. Moreover, it is essential to follow the attached instruction.
- Is it possible to repaint the wall with a normal paint if it was previously covered with a self-cleaning product? Won`t the surface treat a normal paint as a dirt?
There will be no such problem. Firstly, a new normal paint contains elements that stuck it with surface. Moreover, thanks to the photocatalytic products this surface will be clean. Secondly, these painted products won`t have contact with air, humidity and lihgt. That is why, they won`t be active anymore. But what is the sense of doing this? EcoFair`s paints provide cleanness of walls for a very long period of time. So, it is more likely that you will get bored with the colour than that walls will get dirty. You will only have to repaint the walls if the first colour is impossible to bear any longer. The EcoFair Company will be pleased to deliver a new paint in a different colour. But is it worth setting up the scaffolding or rearranging the furniture in order to paint clean walls?
- What is the minimal surface that has to be painted in order to observe the cleaning effect in a flat or in a house?
It is impossible to answer this question unambiguously because every surface covered with photocatalytic paint works and cleans the air in the same time. Of course, the bigger is the surface covered with deodorizing materials, the faster follows the elimination of unpleasant smells, which come into being as a result of smoking cigarettes or cooking.
- What is the method of using the photocatalytic products?
There is no need to apply any special technologies or equipment in order to use photocatalytic products offered by EcoFair Comapny. The whole process takes place by means of traditional technologies and plain methods, with the help of: brush, roller, spatula, taloche or spray shower.
